Dr. Julie Hussin is a Principal Investigator at the Montreal Heart Institute (MHI), University of Montréal, since December 2016. Julie is trained in computational biology, with a strong interest in population genetics and biomedical research. Specifically, her lab focuses on the evolution of human metabolism and on the genetic links between infertility and heart/metabolic diseases. Before coming to the MHI, she was a Human Frontiers postdoctoral fellow in Peter Donnelly's group at the Wellcome Trust Centre for Human Genetics, University of Oxford, and a visiting fellow at the McGill University and Genome Quebec Innovation Centre. During her postdoctoral years, she worked on pleiotropy, on hybrid sterility in mouse and on the genomics of the duck-billed platypus. In 2013, she received her Ph.D. in Bioinformatics from University of Montréal, supervised by Philip Awadalla at Sainte-Justine Hospital Research Centre, where she worked on the implication of meiotic recombination in human disease.
