Our research addresses the causes and consequences of individual variation in the response to infection and we use the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster as model of invertebrate immunity during systemic and chronic infections by both viral and bacterial pathogens. Many of our questions are motivated by evolutionary ecology. We aim to understand how infection impacts host life-histories, behaviour and ultimately, fitness.
