Dr. Domínguez is a recognized expert in evolutionary biology, with a particular interest in the evolution of adaptation. His research includes the development of simulation models, experimental and empirical ecological studies, quantitative and population genetics, plant-animal interactions and phylogeography. He has been involved in projects related to the inventory and assessment of the impact of invasive plant species on the biodiversity of Mexico. He has a Bachelor degree in Biology and a Ph. D. in Ecology, both from the National Autonomous University of Mexico. In 1991, he had a Postdoctoral position at the Doñana Biological Station in Seville, Spain. As a result of his work, Dr. Domínguez has published over 70 indexed articles, a dozen book chapters and articles in popular science. His publications have obtained more than 1000 citations in the scientific literature and he has received funding from national and international agencies for 21 projects. He is a regular collaborator of 14 international refereed journals, 2 national journals and is a reviewer for the Mexican Economic Culture Fund and Cambridge University Press. Dr. Domínguez has graduated 30 students: 14 undergraduate, seven graduate and 10 doctoral students. The latter are currently independent researchers and have started their own lines of study in different universities or are receiving postdoctoral training in Mexico and abroad. He has taught and directed thesis at several universities and graduate studies in Ecology, Biomedical Sciences and Biological Sciences at UNAM, and has collaborated as invited professor with the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology of the University of California-Irvine. In 2005, along with Dr. Adrián Martínez from the School of Medicine, Dr. Domínguez won the Alfonso Robinson Bours Medical Education Award, given by the Mexican Health Foundation. From 2008 to 2016, Dr. Domínguez was the Director of the Ecology Institute of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). He is currently the President of the National Council of Natural Protected Areas, a government agency devoted to the conservation of nature in Mexico, and a member of the Board of Biosphere 2, a University of Arizona facility dedicated to the research and understanding of global scientific issues.
